ATTACKED! ...by foxtails. Louie and Marley continue to improve.

Fresh on the heels of having a couple of run-ins with skunks, my shorthairs have found a new enemy out in the fields. Suddenly, Chocolate Thunder is having a problem with foxtails. Jill and I noticed that Marley was spending quite a bit of time licking two of her paws, but since she showed no blatant signs of injury, we thought no big deal. More than a week later, we came home, and found a big open sore where Marley had previously been licking. A chat with the vet suggested that a foxtail was the culprit. Jill and I decided to check all of her feet, and we managed to find a big swollen bump on one of her rear paws. I squeezed the hell out of it, and out popped a foxtail. Needless to say, in the future we are going to be sure to double check Marley for foxtails, after she runs in the field. I hope Marley is feeling much better now. A few pictures....

Now for a Louie Update. Lou has gone from 53 lbs, to now hovering somewhere around 35lbs. He looks great, and he is starting to act more and more like a hunting dog everyday. Lou is naturally pointing quail, and we are currently working on steadying him up.

Next, a Marley update. Marley has really come along the last few weeks. I have been updating Jill about the pup's progress, and this week Jill decided to come out and see our pup's improvement for herself. She also did us a favor and snapped a bunch of pictures.

NSTRA

I have just started running my pup, Hades, in NSTRA events the last few months. We are both new to the game, but we are doing better with each brace that we run. Short story long, Hades did well, and on one of her four runs, she had a 4/4 and scored a 776. It was her highest score yet, and it was good enough for a fourth place finish. I'm really happy with a fourth place, but I hope to get a placement at the next one. Some pictures.....

My uncle Jeff just got his first FB, a male named Dash, from Coteau kennel in North Dakota. He looks like a champ. Some pictures Jeff sent us...

Two seasons ago, I bought Franchi I-12 Semi-Auto for the chukar hills. I like the gun, but last season I started to have problems with it cycling. Sent the gun in, and twelve weeks later, I got it back with a new stock, forearm, and hammer/bolt. Hopefully everything is fixed now. Here are some pictures of the old wood, versus the new wood...

German Shothair Retrievers...

The pups went out for a little swim today. I just kicked it pool side, and watched them play with their pool toys. Marley needs some water wings...

First pictures of Louie, and a few of the rest of the gang.

Some of you know that my dad adopted a six year old French brittany a couple of months ago. His name is Louie, and he is related to my Dad's first French britt, Scout. When we first met Louie, he was MORBIDLY obese. After a diet, and lots of excersise, Louie is looking rather svelt these days. He has a little ways to go, but he is looking better everyday. Louie has a really thick coat, so he is going to get a summer cut. I have a feeling the cut will make him look even skinnier. A couple of pictures...
